If you have a legal problem and cannot afford to hire a lawyer, you may be eligible for free civil (no criminal) legal services. The Volunteer Lawyers Project does not accept direct applications for help from individuals. You must first apply to Legal Aid of Nebraska to determine if you are eligible for pro bono assistance. To be eligible for services, you must meet certain income, case type, and other eligibility requirements. Many factors determine whether a person is eligible for services. Generally, income eligibility is based on the federal poverty income guidelines. VLP does not provide assistance with criminal problems, appeals, or all civil cases. VLP does not provide assistance to persons who are incarcerated.
VLP has a small staff. We do accept or respond to calls, email or written requests for help. Click the “Other Places to Get Help” button below for helpful information about legal services that may be available to you.
