Omaha’s favorite pro bono event. Lawyers in the City is a free, walk-in legal clinic that brings lawyers, law students and paralegals into communities where low-income residents work and live. Volunteers meet with walk-in visitors to answer basic civil, legal questions on uncontested divorce, debtor issues, tenant problems, name change, powers of attorney, protection orders, small claims and select immigration problems. This event is hosted by the Nebraska State Bar Association Volunteer Lawyers Project in collaboration with Creighton Law School Civil Clinic, Immigrant Legal Center, Midlands Bar Association, Omaha Bar Association, Legal Aid of Nebraska, and Women’s Center for Advancement.
No prior experience is needed. Volunteers work in teams. Training materials are provided in advance. Sign up for 1, 2, or 3 hours or register to attend all day. Free one-hour Ethics CLE and lunch Noon-1pm. Contact VLP at (402) 986-6501, press 2 or [email protected] for more information (lawyers, law students, and paralegals only).
